Material: Phoenix Eye Bodhi Seeds, Bracelet, Buddhist Beads, Agate
Size: 15 mm
Description: The *Sutra on the Merits of Counting Beads* states, "If one uses Bodhi seeds as prayer beads, whether for recitation or simply holding them in one's hand and reciting once, the merit is immeasurable." Because of the profound meaning of Bodhi seeds, many Buddhist beads are named after them. Buddhist practitioners generally possess at least one string of Bodhi seed prayer beads, rosaries, or bracelets. Phoenix Eye Bodhi seed prayer beads are one of the most highly revered types of prayer beads in Tibetan Buddhism. In Tibetan Buddhism, Bodhi seed prayer beads specifically refer to Phoenix Eye Bodhi seed prayer beads.
Why is the merit of practicing with Phoenix Eye Bodhi seeds considered the greatest? Master Zhimin Huihua explains: If one definitively understands the teachings of the (Nona) patriarch, it refers to abiding in the Bodhi mind; whether reciting mantras or not, the greatest merit is attained.
The Tibetan Buddhist master Norbu Rinpoche once taught, "It is best to have a string of Bodhi seed rosaries with phoenix eyes, which can be used in all practices and have the greatest merit." The Gelugpa master Khenpo Tsultrim Lodro also taught, "The Buddha attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree, and the hardness of the Bodhi seed itself, along with its auspicious symbolism, makes it suitable for any practice." The article *Essentials of Tantra* by Jin An-yi also states, "Phoenix-eye Bodhi seed rosaries can be used in all practices."
According to the *Guardian Sutra* and the *Yoga Rosary Sutra*, "The Buddha family uses Bodhi seed rosaries, the Vajra family uses Vajra seed rosaries, the Jewel family uses gold and other precious stones, the Lotus family uses lotus seed rosaries, and the Karma family uses various kinds of combined beads." Furthermore, the article *Essentials of Tantra* by Jin An-yi states, "For increasing practices, use amber beads; for pacifying practices, use crystal beads; for magnetizing and longevity practices, use coral beads; for subjugating practices, use human skull beads; for Avalokiteshvara practices, use Bodhi seed rosaries; and for all practices, phoenix-eye Bodhi seed rosaries can be used."
